Over the last year we’ve been able to fund some fantastic ventures, including Waardi’s Building Babies Brains program, Ardi’ol Art and Culture and Yiriman Women. In operational news, Damien Parriman will be stepping down as chief executive, Aarnja will not be pursuing a formal merger with KRED Enterprises, and we’ve continued our work in the child protection sector, under the guidance of the Kimberley Aboriginal Children in Care Committee. We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and committed person with extensive knowledge of Aboriginal culture and Indigenous Affairs.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) reports to the Board of Directors of Aarnja and is responsible for the efficient and effective management of Aarnja in achieving its mission, strategic goals and financial objectives.
The primary role of the CEO is to identify, develop and direct the implementation of the corporate and administrative goals, policies and plans that will underpin and secure Aarnja’s future and a better future for the Kimberley Region.
Key Responsibilities
Preparing budgets for board approval and managing operational expenditure
Oversee the implementation of the structures, policies and systems for Aarnja, including establishing and maintaining policy and procedures in relation to the ongoing management of Aarnja
Establish and sustain relationships with funders, partners, external service providers, negotiating the long-term sustainability and independence of the organisation
Maintain Aarnja’s deductible gift recipient charity status
Liaise with government and non-government agencies
Represent the Aarnja’s interests in meetings, conferences, seminars and proceedings as required
Provide regular reports and advice to the Board on the performance and outcomes of each component of the strategic plan
Lead efforts to ensure the long-term financial sustainability of Aarnja
Ensure compliance of funding agreements and plan for non-compliance (manage risk)
Meet all compliance requirements in relation to the running of each sector of the businesses
Ensure that mandatory regulatory reporting is completed in a timely, professional and comprehensive way
Ensure that professional financial management is of the highest order
Appoint key staff as required and budgeted for
Present and co-ordinate at all board meetings and AGMs
Evaluate programs against outcomes and
Apply knowledge and understanding of Kimberley Aboriginal cultures and protocols
Essential Skills
General management and operational excellence
Demonstrated success delivering significant organisational outcomes
Excellent change management skills including with those of a variety of backgrounds
Proven capacity in high level strategic planning
Proven capability in high level policy development and policy analysis
Demonstrated experience in developing policy and strategic plans
Strong and decisive leadership skills in complex and conflicting environments
Ability to generate business vision and Kimberley future vision for all society
Strategic planning and organising
Problem solving and decision making
Ability to communicate with potential business partners and community leaders
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Australian Federal Police clearance, Working with Children Check and
Ability to network maturely and effectively with partners in the Kimberley and WA State and Federal Government departments
